Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another person’s work, ideas, words, or data as one’s own, without proper acknowledgment. It includes but is not limited to:

  • Copying text or results from another source without proper citation.

  • Paraphrasing substantial portions of another work without attribution.

  • Claiming authorship of someone else’s research or findings.

  • Using figures, tables, or images from other works without permission or proper credit.

  • Submitting the same work to multiple journals (self-plagiarism).

Plagiarism Screening

  • All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before the peer-review process.

  • Manuscripts with a similarity index above 25%, excluding references and standard phrases, may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright depending on the severity of the overlap.

Author Responsibility

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work.

  • Any borrowed content (text, figures, data) must be appropriately quoted and cited.

  • Authors must confirm during submission that the manuscript is free from plagiarism and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.

Editorial Action in Case of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected, either before or after publication, the editorial team will take the following actions:

  • Inform the corresponding author with documented evidence.

  • Request explanation or correction, depending on the severity.

  • For serious cases, the manuscript will be rejected or retracted if already published.

  • The author’s institution may be notified in cases of proven misconduct.

  • Authors found to have committed plagiarism may be blacklisted from future submission to SIMBA.

Final Note

SIMBA values originality and ethical scholarship. All stakeholders authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to actively support this commitment by maintaining academic honesty and transparency throughout the publication process.
